Kaoru Watanabe is a New York-based composer and musician who specializes in the Japaneseshinobue flutes and taiko drums. His performance combines the physical intensity of Japanese festivals and the esoteric musics of traditional theater with complex improvisational and rhythmic elements of jazz and other musics of the world.
The performance will be followed by a question and answer session with the artist.
